A recent survey, conducted by Forrester Consulting, found members of Generation Y to be the least likely to use video conferencing, video chat and web conferencing tools for business purposes. They are also the least likely to share information via text message and use social networking during the work day.
The study asked nearly 800 information workers of all ages in the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany and Australia about their business habits.
Generation X, those aged 29 to 49, make up the majority of people who use social networking for business, followed closely by Boomers, those aged 55 and older. Boomers have made an online surge in the last 12 months, the survey found, as 79 percent of users embraced social networks and Web 2.0.
Growth was also seen in other avenues. 64 pecent of those who use social networking tools in business use them more than last year. Video chat, team document-sharing sites and web conferencing also experienced significant increases in usage, with jumps of 56 percent, 55 percent and 52 percent respectively.
The survey also revealed that of Americans, the nationality that has the most meetings, 90 percent meet in person, with half of workers engaged in meetings every day.
