Green initiatives featured in webinars

Living your life a little more "green" could be as easy as turning on your computer and logging on to two new webinars.

A free webinar on January 5 will help people learn how to lighten their carbon footprint and save money on utility bills, according to the Daily Loaf, a blog based in Florida. The program is run by the Pinellas County Extension.

The webinar begins at 12:15 p.m., is scheduled for just half an hour, and is meant to be a quick event during the average lunch break. Topics covered will include energy conservation, green purchasing and sustainable living. The event is open to everyone, even people who are not residents of the county.

One of the most eco-friendly activities - recycling - will be the topic of another upcoming webinar on January 5. According to Washington State University, WSU soil scientist Craig Cogger will lead a webinar at 10 a.m. about the benefits of recycling organic materials to improve soil.

The WSU event is also free and will focus on the use of animal manures, compost and biosolids to feed plants, improve soil properties and contribute to soil carbon sequestration.
