Planning your business trip

If you're planning a business trip to meet with affiliates or clients, you should consider the following tips to make your travel plans and negotiations run smoothly.

Before liftoff
Schedule a video conference with your affiliates. Briefly introduce yourself if this is your first interaction with them, and discuss anything you feel necessary. Since you are already planning to meet with your business partners face-to-face, you can have a more casual meeting over a video conference.

Pack lightly
If you're traveling for a week or less, pack extremely lightly. Anything more than a suitcase and one extra carry-on may be unnecessary, unless you have to bring additional equipment with you. Reduce the strain on your back and risk damage to fewer belongings in case your luggage is lost or stolen.

Travel and eat frugally
Expenses during a business trip can add up quickly, and seemingly out of nowhere. Then you go to your account statement later and wonder how you spent so much. Use public transportation whenever possible, instead of taxis, and eat at local, inexpensive restaurants.
