Video conferencing is a great way to get the feeling of face-to-face benefits without the costs of business travel. Now, with a little rigging, executives may be able to offer prospective clients some face-to-robot interactions.

According to USA Today, some businesses are looking into video conferencing solutions that connect to a robot. The telepresence tool has the "virtual eyes and ears of an employee."

The question is, do these robots offer any benefits over computer-to-computer web conferencing? Some think this solution offers panoramic views that make the virtual meetings more real, CNET says, but others feel having a robot roam through a meeting may be "cartoonish" or distracting.

The most obvious benefits of using a video conferencing-equipped robot are its ability to connect workers and clients in remote locations, cut costs on business travel and facilitate document sharing. But whether executives want a robot or not, they can reap these benefits from traditional video conferencing solutions - and it seems many are doing just that.
