National unemployment in the United States hovers around 9 percent. This number is unfortunate, yet what may be even more unfortunate is the jobless rate for veterans. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate for veterans who have served in Iraq or Afghanistan is 11.5 percent. Because they lack jobs at a higher rate, and because of their service to America, special efforts must be made to secure jobs for veterans.
Fortunately, Hire Disability Solutions, a company that specializes in job placement for the disabled, is sponsoring a program to do just that. According to TMCnet.com, the company is collaborating with video and software companies as well as the U.S. armed forces to install video conferencing suites on military bases around the world. Veterans and soon-to-be released members of the military can conduct face-to-face interviews with potential employers.
Though it may not be a complete solution, video conferencing technology can at least give American fighting men and women a better chance at employment after they finish defending our country.
