Most people know that going green is good for the environment - but it can also be good for business. Research has shown that customers are attracted to businesses that are doing their part to go green, including businesses that use video conferencing.
A recent study found that more than half of the global population of consumers - 53 percent - prefers to do business with companies that are doing their part to conserve energy and reduce their harmful impact on the environment.
Businesses can take a lot of steps to make their operations more Earth-friendly. Some small ways to become more environmentally conscious include purchasing recyclable or low-impact office supplies, properly disposing of electronic waste, using low-energy lighting and working with suppliers that take back packaging for re-use. But one of the biggest ways that a business can reduce its carbon footprint is by using web conferencing.
Web and video conferencing allow businesses to continue to work with international partners without the harmful impact of airplane and car travel.
A study performed by the nonprofit Carbon Disclosure Project found that foregoing travel for video conferencing could reduce carbon dioxide emissions by as much as 5.5 metric tons by 2020 - while saving businesses $19 billion over the same period.
