Video conferencing saves employees and executives time and money

According to a study cited in the Telepresence Newsletter, the average white-collar employee spends approximately 50 percent of his or her time communicating.

"Communicating" is a blanket term for various interpersonal pursuits, including attending and reporting on meetings, talking on the telephone and conducting interviews or sales pitches. Compared to an employee's 50 percent, an executive spends between 75 and 80 percent of his or her time communicating.

Logically, then, cutting back on the amount of time it takes to perform these communication activities will free up more time for employees to deal with other tasks. Video and web conferencing can be an effective way of streamlining the various communications procedures that go on throughout a corporation. Web and video conferencing can make meetings, calls and other daily interactions more efficient, more clear and more simple.

In addition to reducing or eliminating the need for travel - a separate study by AT&T, also reported in the newsletter, found that up to 40 percent of business travel could be eliminated with the help of technological advances like video conferencing - video and web conferencing can be much more intimate than phone calls. Video technology also helps eliminate the ambiguity that can sometimes exist when two individuals on opposite ends of a phone call cannot see each other's body language, gestures and facial expressions.
