In an executive order put into place late last year, President Obama committed to reducing waste and excess spending by governmental agencies by encouraging the use of video conferencing technology.
Executive Order 13589 - "Promoting Efficient Spending" states the following:
"Agency travel is important to the effective functioning of Government and certain activities can be performed only by traveling to a different location. However, to ensure efficient travel spending, agencies are encouraged to devise strategic alternatives to Government travel, including local or technological alternatives, such as teleconferencing and video conferencing."
The newly mandated executive order requests all government agencies to find ways to make better use of web and video conferencing technology to help reduce the costs and excess waste from traveling. The government understands that video and web based conferencing can perform these functions by increasing efficiency and streamlining the workforce. Agencies have already begun to implement and develop these conferencing programs for everyday use.
The ability to reduce waste and cut spending are just a few of the many benefits video conferencing can create for any business.
